Felician's Linares Takes Both CACC Weekly Awards

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician University freshman Ashley Linares (Passaic, N.J./Paramus Catholic) has claimed the final set of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference weekly women's cross-country honors for the 2019 regular season. Linares was named the CACC Runner of the Week and Rookie of the Week for the period ending Oct. 20.

Linares won the St. Joseph's (N.Y.) College Invitational on Saturday at Sunken Meadow State Park in Kings Park, N.Y. She traversed 5,000 meters in 19 minutes, 58 seconds, besting a field of 187 runners. Linares also led Felician to the team championship in the meet.

Linares is the CACC Runner of the Week for the first time and the Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week.

Linares has competed in all five races this season for Felician and has finished among the top 10 three times. Twice, in the season opener at the Philadelphia Metropolitan Championship and again on Saturday, she has been the Golden Falcons' frontrunner. She is a 2019 graduate of Paramus Catholic High.

Felician is the No. 7 team in the most recent NCAA Division II East Region coaches' ranking.

Felician is guided by second-year head coach Elson Smajlaj of North Bergen. Linares and the Golden Falcons will compete in the 2019 CACC Championship meet on Sunday, hosted by Chestnut Hill College at Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia. They are seeking the program's first league title.
