Anthony Scannella Named Felician's Track & Field Coach

RUTHERFORD, N.J.Anthony Scannella of Garfield has been named the head women's track & field coach at Felician University, Felician director of athletics Ben DiNallo Jr. has announced. Scannella is the fifth coach in program history.

Scannella served as a Felician assistant to Elson Smajlaj in spring 2019, specializing in sprints, jumps and hurdles. He has prior collegiate coaching experience as a graduate assistant for jumps and hurdles at East Stroudsburg University (ESU).

Scannella has spent the last nine years as an assistant girls' indoor and outdoor coach at Bergen County Technical School in Hackensack. He is the president of the United Athletes Track Club and a former head coach of Saddle Brook Junior Track. He holds USA Track & Field Level 2 certification in jumps.

Scannella owns two bachelor of science degrees, one in sports management from East Stroudsburg in 2007 and a second in physical education, health and driver's education from William Paterson University in 2012. While a track & field student-athlete at ESU, he qualified for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championship meet in hurdles and decathlon.

Smajlaj and Scannella helped guide Felician to a tie for sixth place at the 2019 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Outdoor Championship meet. It was the Golden Falcons' all-time best finish at that event. Smajlaj will continue to coach Felician's men's and women's cross-country squads.

Felician is a member of NCAA Division II. The Golden Falcons sponsor varsity intercollegiate track & field for women during the outdoor (spring) season.
