LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The Felician University women's track & field team concluded its 2018 season by participating in the Georgian Court University Last Chance Meet on Friday, May 11, on the GCU campus.
The meet was not scored on a team basis. As the name implies, the event gave attending teams a "last chance" to accomplish personal and team goals, such as national qualifying standards, sport sponsorship, and individual records.
Felician entered athletes in eight events. Sophomore transfers Jazlyn Pipkins (Paris, Texas/Paris) and Jane Burgoyne (Glen Rock, N.J./Glen Rock) turned in runner-up finishes – Pipkins in the 100-meter dash (13.38 seconds) and Burgoyne in the 1,500-meter run (5 minutes, 45.40 seconds). Both runners established personal-best times in their events.
Three other Golden Falcons 'PRed' on the day, including two of their graduating seniors competing in their final career meet. Kelly Murphy (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson), who was also third behind Burgoyne in the 1,500, ran a career-best 3:10.76 in the 800-meter run and placed fourth. Walk-on Kristen Keller (Reading, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) was fifth in the discus by throwing 30.48 meters, which pencils out to an even 100.0 feet.
Freshman Vanessa Saiboo (Jersey City, N.J./County Prep) ran a season-low 3:04.97 in the 200, good for third place.
Felician completed the fourth intercollegiate season in program history, and its first guided by head coach James Pipkins II. The Golden Falcons set school records in eight events, qualified and sent athletes to The Penn Relays for the first time, and finished eighth with a program-record 23 points in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship meet.
Middle-distance runner Murphy and walk-on throwers Heather Androvich (Carteret, N.J./Carteret) and Keller will be lost to graduation.
