RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician University senior forward Kameron Stone (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) tallied 24 points and seven rebounds, but none of her teammates reached double figures in scoring and the Golden Falcons were defeated, 67-49, by visiting Post University on Tuesday evening at Job Gymnasium.
The contest barely resembled this season's first meeting between the schools. On Jan. 22, Felician claimed an 89-85 victory over the Eagles in Waterbury, Conn.
Tuesday's result jettisoned Post (12-12, 8-8 CACC) into a CACC playoff berth, and tied the Eagles for third place with Felician in the league's North Division. Both teams trail Caldwell University by one game for second place with three games remaining. At season's end, the top two teams in each division will host quarterfinal tilts on Mar. 5.
Senior guard Lauren Chambers (Lebanon, Pa./Lebanon) came off the bench to top a balanced Post offense with 13 points.
The Eagles held Felician (8-15, 8-8) to 31-percent shooting from the floor, including a 3 for 21 clip (14 percent) from three-point range. Post also amassed a rebounding advantage of 50-24 and outscored the Golden Falcons, 23-10, at the foul line.
Post, which never trailed, opened a 12-2 lead after seven minutes of play. The Eagles were ahead, 19-10, after one period, by as many as 17 points in the second quarter, and 29-16 at halftime.
The visitors imposed their largest spread of the night, 39-18, following a Chambers three-pointer with six minutes, 33 seconds, remaining in the third period. Felician, however, scored the final seven points of the quarter, including a transition layup by Jaylee Sanchez (Union City, N.J./Hudson Catholic) at the 0:20 mark, to trail, 47-34 at the buzzer.
The Eagles regained control with a Katelyn Canlas (Fort Washington, Md./Crossland) three-pointer and a Jessica Degree (Yonkers, N.Y./Monroe CC) bucket to start the fourth. The closest the hosts could come was an 11-point gap on two occasions, the final time with 3:41 left.
Degree finished with 11 points, 12 rebounds and five steals. Eagle senior Gabriela Middleton (Coral Springs, Fla./Piper) accumulated 11 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. Senior Kayla Diaz (Clifton, N.J./Paterson Eastside) scored eight points for Felician.
The Golden Falcons welcome Concordia (N.Y.) College to Rutherford on Saturday for a 1 p.m. tip in another CACC North contest.
