RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Recent high-school graduate Alexis De La Cruz (San Jacinto, Calif./San Jacinto) signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to continue her softball career at Felician University during the NCAA's recently-concluded 2018-19 signing period, first-year Felician head coach Herb Melendez announced today.
De La Cruz will be the fourth scholarship newcomer to join the Felician softball team's Class of 2023. Outfielder Vienna Chierchia (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan), pitcher Abby Poirot (Winsted, Conn./St. Paul) and infielder Johanna Rivera (Ridgefield Park, N.J./Mount St. Dominic Academy) committed to the Golden Falcons during the first two weeks of the signing period in mid- to late-November.
De La Cruz, a 5-foot-3 pitcher and outfielder, led the Mountain Pass League (MPL) in pitching strikeouts as a senior for San Jacinto (Calif.) High School in 2019 and was voted First Team all-league. A two-time team MVP, she was a 2018 Honorable Mention all-MPL selection. De La Cruz plays summer travel softball for the SoCal Dynasty. At Felician, she intends to major in biology.
