RUTHERFORD, N.J.Farheen Abbasi of West New York and Anthony Scannella of Garfield have been named assistant men's and women's cross-country coaches at Felician University, Felician head coach Elson Smajlaj announced today.

Abbasi was a four-year runner for the women's cross-country team at Bloomfield College, a fellow Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) member of Felician's. She was coached by Smajlaj for her final three seasons. A graduate of Memorial High School in West New York, Abbasi went on to earn a bachelor of science degree in biology from Kean University in 2018.

Scannella was named Felician's head women's track & field coach in August after one season as an assistant with that program under Smajlaj. He is the president of the United Athletes Track Club, based in Palisades Park.

Scannella competed in track & field for East Stroudsburg University, qualifying for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships in hurdles and decathlon. He completed a B.S. in sports management at ESU in 2007, and then served as a graduate assistant in hurdles and jumps for the Warriors. He earned a second B.S. in physical education, health and driver's education from William Paterson University in 2012.

Abbasi and Scannella join holdover Hussein Harb on Smajlaj's 2019 staff. Abbasi and Harb were married to each other last month.

Both Golden Falcon cross-country teams are next scheduled to complete at Stockton University on Sept. 21.
