LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Lock Haven University pulled away with three second-half goals to earn a 4-0 non-conference men's soccer victory over visiting Felician University on Sunday afternoon at Hubert Jack Stadium. Felician (0-2) went down to its second consecutive road loss to begin its 2019 campaign.
Golden Falcon freshman goalkeeper Alex Ficarra (Phillipsburg, N.J.) made seven saves, but could not completely mitigate a 24-4 shots advantage for the hosts. Lock haven also piled up a 9-1 edge in corner kicks.
LHU took advantage of an early opportunity. With fewer than 10 minutes gone by on the game clock, Brian Flatter (Frederick, Md.) send a corner kick near the back post that found the head of teammate Andrew Moore (Lancaster, Pa.), who finished for the early 1-0 Bald Eagle lead. Felician created few opportunities of its own but kept LHU out of the net for the duration of the period and the game went into halftime at the same 1-0 score.
The Bald Eagles began period two aggressively on offense as well, attempting three shots in the first five minutes. The pressure paid off when Felician defended a corner kick but could not gain possession, and Moore pushed a ball to Ivo Khalic (Vienna, Austria) for the finish with 39:04 to play.
Chris McLaughlin (Hollis, N.Y.) followed two minutes later with Felician's only shot on goal, which was saved. But the Golden Falcon offense never got completely untracked, and LHU added scores in the 70th and 83rd minutes for the final margin.
McLaughlin led the Golden Falcons with two shots. Beckham Sibiski (Kutztown, Pa.) got off a team high five shots and recorded an assist for LHU.
Felician faces another Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference opponent on the road on Wednesday when it travels to East Stroudsburg University for a 2 p.m. kick.
