RINDGE, N.H. -- The Felician University men's soccer team went down to a 4-0 defeat at the hands of host Franklin Pierce University in non-conference action on Thursday afternoon at Sodexho Field. The game was the 2019 season opener for both teams and Felician's first intercollegiate athletics event of the 2019-20 academic year.
Graduate student Stefan Lohberger (Schoellnach, Germany) scored three goals for Franklin Pierce.
Felician was out-shot, 10-0, in the first half, but nearly escapted into the intermission even. However, with 5:43 showing on the first-half clock, Cristobal Andreu (Castellon de la Plana, Spain) connected with Lohberger on a longball, with the latter finishing from close range. The Ravens carried the 1-0 edge into halftime.
The hosts put the game away when Lohberger completed his hat trick with goals in the 53rd and 59th minutes.
The Ravens ended the day with an 18-6 shot advantage, but the Golden Falcons never found the frame. Felician freshman goalkeeper Alex Ficarra (Phillipsburg, N.J.) made five saves in his collegiate debut.
Felician travels to Lock Haven University for another non-league match on Sunday.
