RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Felician University men's golf team will compete in the 2019-20 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship tournament today and Tuesday. The event will be hosted by Dominican (N.Y.) College at White Beeches Country Club in Haworth, N.J. The tournament is slated for 36 holes, with one 18-hole round to be played each day.
Play will commence at 8 a.m. on both days. The earliest Felician player will tee off at 8:50 a.m. on Monday. The CACC, in partnership with BlueFrame Technology, expects to supply free live streaming video starting at 7:30 a.m. from Holes 1 and 18 each day at http://www.caccnetwork.com. Dominican also expects to offer Live Scoring at http://results.golfstat.com//public/leaderboards/gsnav.cfm?pg=participants&tid=20162.
For the third time, the CACC will contest its men's golf championship tournament during the fall semester. More information is available at https://caccathletics.org/sports/golf/2019-20/releases/104CACCN.
Felician is guided by first-year head coach Joe Ambrose. The Golden Falcons set a school tournament scoring record of 612 (302-310) in last year's event, held in Newark, Del., but settled for fifth place.
Each of the nine conference schools may enter five golfers, with the top four scores each day comprising its team score. Felician's top four players all return from last year. At the top of the line-up is record-setting senior Jake Storako (Laurel Springs, N.J./Highland Regional), a two-time CACC All-Tournament performer.
Storako, who tied for fourth place a year ago with 71-77-148, owns the top two single-season scoring averages in Felician history, including a record 76.81 in 2018-19. He is at a record pace of 77.39 for his career.
Below Storako, Ambrose will pencil in the names of sophomore Gonzalo Maldonado Felices (Almeria, Spain/Stella Maris), senior Christian Lauchaire (Annandale, N.J./North Hunterdon) and redshirt junior Prince Sukklabsawan (Si Racha, Thailand/Heritage Academy [S.C.]). Maldonado Felices barely missed all-tournament honors in 2018, tying for seventh place at 150, and Lauchaire tied for 10th with 151.
Junior and first-year college player Adrian Mayorga (Valley Cottage, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) rounds out the Golden Falcons' championship lineup.
The top five individual finishers, plus ties, after Tuesday's round will be named CACC All-Tournament.
Felician seeks its first CACC Championship; it was the runner-up in (spring) 2016. Andrew Geesey won the individual title that year, the only Golden Falcon to do so. Felician's all-time history in the CACC Tournament can be viewed at https://felicianathletics.com/sports/mgolf/archive/Golf-CACCs.
The team champion of the 2019 CACC Men's Golf Championship tournament will automatically qualify for the 2020 NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Regional Championship. Dominican is the event's defending champion.
