Felician Golf Turns Over Half Of Roster

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Recent high-school graduate Gonzalo Maldonado Felices (Almeria, Spain/Stella Maris) signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) during the recently-concluded NCAA regular-signing period to continue his golf career at Felician University, Felician men's coach Ben DiNallo Jr. announced today.

Also on Thursday, DiNallo announced that rising juniors Christian Lauchaire (Annandale, N.J./North Hunterdon) and Thanachai Sukklabsawan (Si Racha, Thailand/Heritage Academy [S.C.]) have transferred to Felician and have signed athletics financial aid agreements for men's golf.

"These three guys have either already played college golf or played the game at a high level," said DiNallo, entering his 14th season. "They will not be overwhelmed by anything they see during our season."

Maldonado Felices won four school league championships in his home city of Almeria, Spain. He is a 2018 graduate of Colegia Stella Maris in Madrid. The 5-foot-9, 170-pound Maldonado Felices is undecided upon a major course of study.

"Gonzalo owns a good resume in the sport," DiNallo said. "He played tournament golf at a very high level in Spain, and has the ability to be immediately successful at the NCAA Division II level."

Lauchaire, 5-foot-9 and 160 pounds, most recently played for Raritan Valley Community College in Branchburg. He has two years of eligibility for the Golden Falcons. Lauchaire played golf, basketball and baseball at North Hunterdon High School of Annandale. He intends to major in business administration at Felician.

"Christian enjoyed a successful two years at Raritan Valley," DiNallo said. "He is a player who always has a plan and knows how to manage his game on a golf course."

After graduating from Heritage Academy in Hilton Head Island, S.C, in 2016, Sukklabsawan began his collegiate career at Webber International University in Babson Park, Fla. He also plays in International Junior Golf Academy events. At 5-foot-11 and 168 pounds, Sukklabsawan expects to major in marketing.

"As a guy that has played college golf," DiNallo said, "Thanachai is capable of raising the level of our entire team."

The trio will join returning starters Justin Keiser (Bellport, N.Y./Bellport), a senior, and junior Jake Storako (Laurel Springs, N.J./Highland Regional), as well as sophomore walk-on Adrian Mayorga (Valley Cottage, N.Y./Albertus Magnus), on the 2018-19 Felician University men's golf roster.

Felician is a member of NCAA Division II and competes in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC). It finished seventh in the 2017-18 CACC Championship tournament. The Golden Falcons are slated to begin their 2018-19 season with a 36-hole event at Franklin Pierce University on Sept. 9-10.
