RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Freshman swingman Jay'von Jackson (Plainfield, N.J./St. Mary-Elizabeth) set a Felician University record with eight three-point field goals and tied a school freshman mark with 28 points to lead the Golden Falcons to an 85-80 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's basketball victory over visiting Caldwell University on Wednesday night at Job Gymnasium.

Felician (3-7, 1-2 CACC) picked up its first conference victory of the season and snapped a four-game losing streak against Caldwell.

Jackson, who raised his scoring average from 11.1 to 12.8 points per game, enjoyed a perfect first half. He canned all eight of his field goal attempts, and was 7 for 7 from distance, for 23 points. Fifteen minutes into the contest, he had already tied the school record for three-pointers in a game, shared by Marcin Ziobron, Jason Romer, C.J. Mwila and Terrell Spaulding.

The Golden Falcons led by as many as 14 points on two occasions in the half, the latter at 42-28 following a Dee-End McRae (Irvington, N.J./Newark Central) layup with 3:42 to play until intermission. Felician settled for a 46-37 halftime advantage.

Caldwell (6-7, 2-2) netted the first six points of the second half, and still trailed by three, 55-52, with 13:20 left in regulation time. McRae, however, tallied the game's next six points, and when Jaylen Colon (Paterson, N.J./John F. Kennedy) and Zamir Wright (Newark, N.J./University HS) sank consecutive threes minutes later, the hosts had stretched their advantage to 15 points.

The Golden Falcons remained ahead by 10, 77-67, after Wright's transition layup with 4:38 to go. The Cougars pulled within 79-73 at the 1:13 mark, but on Felician's next possession, Colon found Jackson in the left corner for the record-breaking trifecta with exactly 1:00 to play. Caldwell extended the drama on a dunk by Eric Johnson-Alford (Clifton, N.J./PCTI) and a Ned Ogoemesim (Westhampton, N.J./Rancocas Valley) trey. Two Colon free throws at 0:17, however, sealed the Golden Falcon victory.

Wright finished with 18 points and McCrae scored 12 on 6 of 9 shooting. Felician also received 11 points off the bench from junior Jeff Lewis (Sicklerville, N.J./Timber Creek) (5-6 FG). The Golden Falcons shot 54 percent from the floor, with their three bench players going 12 for 16 (75 percent). Felician's 12 three-pointers and its 48-percent rate from distance were season highs.

Johnson-Alford (7-10 FG) paced Caldwell with 17 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks in 26 bench minutes. The Cougars put five scorers in double figures, with Ogoemesim recording 16 points, 10 boards and three assists.

Colon amassed seven points and 12 assists (against three turnovers), two assists shy of the Felician record.

Felician puts the finishing touches on a four-game homestand when the Jefferson Rams come to Rutherford on Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. tip.
