Baseball Ranked No. 8 In Region By NCAA Committee

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The NCAA Division II Baseball Committee released its first set of regional rankings for the 2019 season on Wednesday afternoon. The committee has ranked Felician University as the No. 8 team in the East Region.

The NCAA Committee is responsible at season's end for choosing and seeding the 56 teams that will qualify for the NCAA Division II Baseball Championship, including 33 at-large entrants. The Committee's rankings are unaffiliated with those of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association, which on Monday ranked Felician No. 7 for the third consecutive week.

After splitting a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader with the University of the Sciences today, Felician (27-19) owns a won-lost record of 27-14 against fellow members of the East Region. The Golden Falcons are one of three CACC teams to appear in the NCAA ranking. Wilmington (Del.) University (29-16) is in the No. 6 spot, and Chestnut Hill College (24-19) has been ranked 10th.

Felician is in first place in the CACC South Division. At 21-7 in league play, the Golden Falcons lead Chestnut Hill by two games with four remaining.

Felican has four regulars batting .320 or better and is hitting .293 as a team. Senior second-baseman Danny Healey Jr. (Brookhaven, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) is hitting .403 with a home run, 45 runs scored, 35 runs batted in, and 14 stolen bases. Healey leads the CACC with eight triples. Senior shortstop and leadoff man L.T. Struble (Hammonton, N.J./Hammonton) is batting .367 with four homers and league highs of 53 runs scored and 36 steals, and sophomore outfielder/first baseman Anthony Condito (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) is at .338 with 21 extra-base hits and 41 RBI.

Junior right-handed pitcher Alex Schwartz (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional) owns a 7-1 won-lost record and a 2.74 earned-run average. Sophomore righty Michael Gutierrez (Garfield, N.J./Garfield) is 5-4 with a 3.35 ERA and a conference-high 83 strikeouts. Sophomore righty Nick Nardulli (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) (2-1, 3,00) tops the CACC with a school-record 11 saves.

There are 34 baseball-playing schools in the region.

Felician, guided by 16th-year head coach Chris Langan, hosts USciences in another CACC doubleheader on Friday at 1 p.m. in Lyndhurst, N.J.
