RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician University is ranked No. 7 in the current National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II East Region Poll, according to balloting released on Monday.
Felician (24-18) went 4-2 last week against two of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference's (CACC) top offenses, fellow regionally-ranked squad Wilmington (Del.) University and North Division-leading Post University. The Golden Falcons held steady after occupying the No. 10 position in the April 8 version of the poll. They have a 24-13 record against fellow members of the East, including a 4-4 mark against other teams in the regional top 10.
Felician is one of three CACC members to be ranked this week. Wilmington (25-15) is in the No. 6 spot, and Dominican (N.Y.) College (20-16) has been voted 10th.
Felican has four regulars batting .320 or better, and is hitting .298 as a team. Senior second-baseman Danny Healey Jr. (Brookhaven, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) is hitting .400 with a home run, 42 runs scored, 32 runs batted in, and 14 stolen bases. Healey is the CACC co-leader with seven triples. Senior shortstop and leadoff man L.T. Struble (Hammonton, N.J./Hammonton) is batting .377 with three homers and league highs of 49 runs scored and 33 steals, and sophomore outfielder/first baseman Anthony Condito (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) is at .360 with 20 extra-base hits and 35 RBI.
Junior right-handed pitcher Alex Schwartz (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional) owns a 5-1 won-lost record and a 2.98 earned-run average. Sophomore righty Michael Gutierrez (Garfield, N.J./Garfield) is 5-4 with a 3.35 ERA and a conference-high 83 strikeouts. Sophomore righty Nick Nardulli (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) (2-1, 2.36) tops the CACC with eight saves.
The NCBWA D-II East voting panel is comprised of nine regional sports information directors, three each from the CACC, East Coast Conference, and Northeast 10 Conference. There are 34 baseball-playing schools in the region.
Felician, guided by 16th-year head coach Chris Langan, is 18-6 in CACC play and owns a three-game lead over Chestnut Hill College in the CACC South Division with eight remaining. The Golden Falcons travel to Concordia (N.Y.) College for a league doubleheader on Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Bronxville, N.Y.
