For 2nd Time, Gutierrez & Condito Honored In Same Week

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician University sophomore Michael Gutierrez (Garfield, N.J./Garfield) was selected as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the period ending Apr. 7, the CACC announced on Monday. Additionally, Felician redshirt sophomore Anthony Condito (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) was chosen as the league's Rookie of the Week for the third time this season.

Gutierrez is the CACC Pitcher of the Week for the second occasion in 2019. During Game 1 of a home conference doubleheader against the Jefferson Rams on Apr. 5, he earned the victory by pitching eight scoreless innings. Gutierrez allowed four singles and three walks and struck out a Felician record 16 batters.

Condito, a first-year collegiate player, was 9 for 20 (.450) at the plate last week as Felician went 4-2, all in league play. He slugged .750 with four doubles, scored five runs and drove in five. Condito went 6 for 8 on Saturday as the Golden Falcons swept Caldwell University to give coach Chris Langan his 400th career victory.

Gutierrez, the 2018 CACC Rookie of the Year, is 5-3 with a 2.31 earned-run average in 10 games (eight starts) this season. In 50 2/3 innings he has given up 30 hits, struck out a CACC-high 77 batters, and walked 31. He is a 2017 graduate of Garfield High.

Condito is batting .350 and slugging .569 in 38 games. He owns 19 extra-base hits, including two home runs, and leads Felician with 30 runs batted in. He is a 2016 graduate of Nutley High.

Felician (21-17, 15-5 CACC) is guided by 16th-year head coach Langan of Hazlet. Gutierrez, Condito and the Golden Falcons play a four-game series against Wilmington (Del.) University this week, two on Tuesday in Lyndhurst and two on Friday in New Castle, Del.
