CALDWELL, N.J. – Caldwell University used a balanced effort on both sides of the ball to earn a 3-0 (25-13, 25-20, 25-13) Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's volleyball victory over visiting Felician University on Wednesday night at the George R. Newman Center. The matched marked the beginning of 2017 CACC play for both schools.

Sophomore outside hitter Paulina Calero (El Centro, Calif.) topped Felician (0-4, 0-1 CACC) with six kills. Golden Falcon freshman middle blocker Kate Schneider (Cincinnati, Ohio) hit .714 with five kills and no errors in seven attack attempts. Junior setter Jordan Hoffman (Colorado Springs, Colo.) posted 34 assists and six digs and guided Caldwell (5-0, 1-0) to a .333 team attack percentage.

The Golden Falcons jumped out to a 6-2 set one lead. The visitors were still ahead, 8-4, when Caldwell captured 13 consecutive rallies. Senior Taryn Auyong (Honolulu, Hawaii) put down five kills for the Cougars in the set's decisive run.

Set 2 was tied on five occasions, the final time at 13-13. That score came during a run of six straight Cougar points which gave Caldwell the lead for good. Felician pulled to within 17-15 on a Katie Asbery (Mililani, Hawaii) kill and a Caldwell attack error, but another stretch of four straight Cougar points created some space for the hosts. The Golden Falcons clawed to within 22-20 before Caldwell claimed the final three points.

The Cougars never trailed in the third set. Leading 12-9, they received a kill from Kathleen Compagno (Oakland Park, Ill.) and two more from Chloe Kissner (Seabrook, Texas) as part of a 5-0 run. The sides traded points for a long stretch, and that was enough for Caldwell to amass a 21-13 edge before running off the match's final four points.

Caldwell sophomore Avery Stanechewski (Tampa, Fla.) hit .562 with 10 kills. Senior Katrina Janssen (Seville, Australia) (nine digs) and Auyong (seven digs) also put down 10 kills apiece for the Cougars.

Felician sophomore setter Charlotte Greek (Menifee, Calif.) totaled a season-high 20 assists. Baylei Furman (Kaneohe, Hawaii) had four kills and 10 digs, and Lauren Mack (Valparaiso, Ind.) led all players on the night with 13 digs.

Felician plays its last completely non-conference Saturday of the season this week when it travels to Mercy College for a tri-match with the Mavericks and Cheyney University.
