RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician College sophomore student-athlete Sarah Shebel (Chandler, Ariz./Perry) has been selected to represent the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) at the 2014 NCAA Division-II Identity Workshop, to be held April 2-4 in West Palm Beach, Fla.
Shebel is a co-captain of the Felician women's volleyball team. Playing both setter and defensive specialist, she helped lead the 2013 Golden Falcons to their first CACC playoff berth in six years. In October, Shebel was elected the president of Felician's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). She owns a 3.70 grade-point average while majoring in healthcare administration.
The annual Division-II Identity Workshop is held in an effort to continue building support for Division II strategic positioning, according to NCAA D-II Vice President Terry Steeb Gronau. Key administrators and SAAC members from every Division II conference will receive personalized training from respected collegiate administrators during the two-day gathering. The workshop will focus on identity, community engagement, and social media.
"I'm shocked and honored that a conference our size would choose a sophomore for an event like this," Shebel said of the 14-school CACC. "I'm hoping to improve my leadership skills and learn new ways to motivate our SAAC. I would like to add more on-campus activities and come up with more programs to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation."
Each Division II conference is invited to send one SAAC member and one SAAC liaison to the workshop. Shebel will be joined by Kelly McBryan, compliance specialist and SAAC advisor at Goldey-Beacom College, in West Palm Beach.
"It was a privilege to nominate Sarah for this opportunity," said Felician director of athletics Ben "J.R." DiNallo. "She has demonstrated leadership qualities which will only be enhanced by her participation in this workshop."
