EWING, N.J. – Most members of the Felician University women's track & field team participated in their final meet before the 2017 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship when they traveled to the Lions Invitational, hosted by The College of New Jersey on Friday and Saturday at the TCNJ Track & Field Complex.
The event contained competition from all three divisions of the NJCAA as well as from the junior college level. It was not scored on a team basis.
Three school records fell over the weekend, including two by freshman thrower Monika Dlugosz (Clifton, N.J./Clifton). Dlugosz matched her own Felician mark in the shotput, tying for 10th place out of 43 entrants in the event with a throw of 11.04 meters. Throwing the javelin for the first time this season, Dlugosz placed 30th with a toss of 26.00 meters. Teammate Anna Piedel (Garfield, N.J./Garfield) had owned the record of 24.00 meters, set on Apr. 8
Dlugosz also competed in the discus at TCNJ, and was 18th out of 48 with a 30.90-meter throw.
Freshman Arshlene Ceide (Roselle, N.J./Abraham Clark) bettered her own Felician record in the 100-meter dash. Her time of 14.28 seconds placed her 43rd out of 70 competitors.
Among many personal bests by the Golden Falcons in the meet was a seventh-place result by freshman Valentina Gonzalez (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) in the 5000-meter run. Gonzalez completed the race in 22:00.07, taking more than 22 seconds off of her previous best time.
Felician will send a small contingent of throwers to the Brick City Classic, hosted by New Jersey Institute of Technology, on Sunday. The CACC Championship meet will be hosted by Georgian Court University on Sunday, May 7, in Lakewood, N.J.
