WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Eight Felician College student-athletes made school history on Saturday when they competed at the Monmouth University Season Opener track & field meet. Their participation officially launched women's outdoor track & field as Felician's 12th varsity intercollegiate sport.
Sophomore Sabrina Roldan (Woodbridge, N.J./Woodbridge) enjoyed the most success of the Golden Falcons who traveled to Monmouth. Roldan finished 46th out of 84 competitors in the 1,500-meter run, completing the race in five minutes, 21.05 seconds. Later in the day, she placed 39th out of 65 in the 800 meters with a time of 2:37.57.
Senior Andrea Sarracino (Wood-Ridge, N.J./St. Mary-Rutherford) was the only other Felician athlete to compete in more than one event. Sarracino was 78th in the 1,500 (6:06.32) and 61st in the 800 (2:59.48)
Felician's only field competitor for the meet was sophomore Stephanie Hesse (Lincoln Park, N.J./Boonton). She entered the triple jump, and was 14th out of 16 with a jump of 8.82 meters (28' 11.25").
The balance of the Golden Falcon delegation took part in the 1,500 meters. Senior Sylvia Bialy (Lodi, N.J./Lodi) was 80th in 6:23.46, followed by senior Lianne Rossi (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) (81st, 6:23.51), sophomore Kate Rohsler (Fredon, N.J./Kittatinny) (82nd, 6:24.04), sophomore Tasha Gonel (Howell, N.J./Howell) (83rd, 6:43.76) and senior Sam Kamphausen (East Rutherford, N.J./Becton) (84th, 7:34.27).
Felician did not receive a team score.
The Golden Falcons hope to bring a larger delegation to next weekend's Roadrunner Invitational, to be hosted by Ramapo College on Apr. 4.
