RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Four recent high-school graduates – Valerie Adamo (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville), Amy Aguilar-Almazo (Cilfton, N.J./Clifton), Alexa Fischetto (Wallington, N.J./Wallington) and Yosseline Marquez Perez (North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen) signed National Letters of Intent during the recently-concluded NCAA signing period to continue their soccer careers at Felician University, Felician head women's coach Thomas Notte announced today.
The quartet runs Felician's total of scholarship newcomers for the 2018 season to eight. Earlier this month, Notte announced the commitments of transfer students Breeana Cassidy (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Boro), Camryn Jenkin (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes), Danielle Jenkin (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes), and Kiara Martinez (San Pedro Sula, Honduras/Sacred Heart Academy).
Adamo, a 5-foot-8 midfielder, participated in soccer, basketball, and track & field at Hicksville (N.Y.) High School, earning all-Nassau County honors in basketball. She also plays club soccer for the Franklin Square Raiders SC Strikers. Adamo is undecided on a major course of study.
"Valerie has good size and speed," said Notte, entering his 11th season with the Golden Falcons. "She can play in the midfield an also be effective up top."
Aguilar-Almazo was a three-time All-Big North Conference selection for Clifton High. The 5-foot-2 defender/midfielder helped the Mustangs to three consecutive Big North Liberty Division championships. She played at the club level for the Princeton Soccer Association, and was part of a MSSL Ryder Cup championship team. Aguilar-Almazo intends to major in communications at Felician.
"Amy is a 'jack-of-all-trades' on the soccer field," Notte said. "That and her high 'soccer IQ' will benefit our entire team."
Fischetto, 5-foot-4, is the sister of Golden Falcon rising junior midfielder Jenna Fischetto and played at Wallington High for Felician graduate Brittany (Lohman) Parsons '09. She also participated in track & field for the Panthers. Fischetto plays club soccer for Parsippany FC. She expects to enroll in Felician's pre-physical therapy program.
"Alexa is extremely strong technically," Notte said. "She can play on all three lines, and will have a positive effect on our possession game."
Marquez Perez, 5-foot-4, was a midfielder for North Bergen High and for the FORZA travel team in the Neptune Soccer Association. She hopes to major in criminal justice.
"Yosseline possesses excellent field vision," Notte said. "She is a strong technical player."
Notte also announced on Sunday that recent high-school graduates Ashley Canizales (North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen) and Genesis Yepez (North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen) have been accepted to Felician University and are expected to join the women's soccer team. Both players are defenders.
Felician is a member of NCAA Division II and competes in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC). The Golden Falcons begin their 2018 campaign at Fairmont (W. Va.) State University on Friday, August 31, at 7 p.m.
