Bergen County Duo Named Felician Senior Student-Athletes Of The Year

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician University seniors Julia Sheridan (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J./Community) and Dean Loucka (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) have been named the 2015-16 Felician Female and Male Senior Student-Athletes of the Year. Both were honored at the athletics department's annual senior banquet on Sunday night at the Hilton-Hasbrouck Heights.

The Felician Senior Student-Athletes of the Year are the female and male graduating athletes who, as selected by department administrators, best represent the mission statement of Golden Falcon athletics. Academic performance, athletic contribution, citizenship and leadership both inside and outside of athletics are among the selection criteria.

Sheridan, a goalkeeper for the women's soccer team, will graduate as Felician's career leader in goals-against average (1.29) and second on the school's all-time shutout list (10). She was a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference All-Tournament selection in 2014. This season, she recorded a 7-5 record with three shutouts and a 1.43 GAA in leading the Golden Falcons to their second consecutive CACC semifinal appearance.

Sheridan is the president of Felician's chapter of Volunteer Income Tax Assistance. She trains service dogs for Canine Companions for Independence and packages meals as a volunteer for Stop Hunger Now. She is a three-time Academic-All-CACC selection and a New Jersey CPA Scholar, and was Felician's selection for the 2016 NJAIAW "Woman of the Year" program. A member of the Sigma Beta Delta business honor society and the Chi Alpha Sigma college athlete honor society, Sheridan owns a 3.90 cumulative grade-point average while majoring in accounting. She is a 2012 graduate of Community High of Teaneck.

Loucka is the third consecutive baseball player to earn the honor, following Joe Petosa in 2014 and Matthew Facendo last year. A right-handed pitcher, Loucka has appeared in 11 games this season, posting a 2-4 record and 21 strikeouts in 22 2/3 innings in helping the Golden Falcons to the CACC regular-season championship.

Loucka ranks 10th in Felician history with 126 career strikeouts. He is also among the program's all-time leaders in opponent batting average (.236) and hits allowed per nine innings (7.97). He volunteers at the food pantry at Our Lady of Assumption Church in Wood-Ridge and was a student game operations assistant in the Felician athletics department as a senior. Loucka is majoring in accounting with a GPA of 3.41. He is a 2012 graduate of Wood-Ridge High.

The athletics department also honored its 21 senior student-athletes across its 13 intercollegiate NCAA Division II sports at Sunday night's banquet.
