RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician College freshman Bjonda Ademi (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) has been chosen as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Women's Soccer co-Defensive Player of the Week and co-Rookie of the Week for the period ending Oct. 13, the CACC announced on Monday.
Ademi, a 5-foot-7 goalkeeper, was pressed into service when starter Julia Sheridan (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J./Community) was injured late in regulation against Bloomfield College on Oct. 9. She made her collegiate debut by entering to start overtime, and played 13 scoreless minutes, making one save, as Felician captured a 2-1 double-overtime home victory.
Three days later, Ademi received her first career start, and turned in a 110-minute shutout as the Golden Falcons settled for a 0-0 draw against Goldey-Beacom College, also at home. She stopped four shots, including one in extra time.
Ademi is a 2013 graduate of Wayne Hills High. She shared both of this week's awards with fellow rookie keeper Gina Yannette of Dominican (N.Y.) College.
Ademi is the second Golden Falcon in 2013 to be named Defensive Player of the Week in women's soccer. Sheridan received the conference's first-ever such award on Sept. 9. The program's last Rookie of the Week was current sophomore midfielder Macki Groves (Millville, N.J./Millville), who was twidce so honored in 2012.
Also on Monday, Felician senior striker Alysia Arcona (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown) was named to the CACC Weekly Honor Roll. More information is available at http://www.caccathletics.org/sports/wsoc/2013-14/releases/20131014-WSOC-report.pdf.
Felician is guided by sixth-year head coach Thomas Notte. Ademi, Arcona and the Golden Falcons (3-6-4, 2-3-4) next compete on Saturday, when they travel to No. 8 nationally-ranked American International College.
