RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Felician University department of athletics will host a "Green-Out" spirit event at its home women's and men's basketball games on Thursday, February 7. Two days later, the women's basketball team, as part of a national initiative, will sponsor "Play4Kay" Day during another set of home games.
On Thursday, the Golden Falcons host Holy Family University in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action. The Felician and HFU women meet at 5:30 p.m. in Rutherford, while the Golden Falcon and Tiger men play at 8 p.m. Felician fans who attend either game are encouraged to wear dark green, and the first 100 fans at each game will receive a free Green-Out T-shirt.
Between games, a reception will be held in the Rutherford campus cafeteria, one level below the gymnasium.
Felician entertains CACC foe Wilmington (Del.) University on Saturday with the women's game beginning at 1 p.m. Representatives of the women's basketball team will sell pink breast cancer ribbons and pins and conduct raffles with the proceeds to benefit the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
The Play4Kay program, named for longtime North Carolina State University women's basketball coach Kay Yow, exists to raise awareness and funds for research of women's cancers. Yow twice successfully battled breast cancer before succumbing to the disease in January 2009. A year earlier, she had joined forces with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association and The V Foundation for Cancer Research to form the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
The men's contest between Felician and Wilmington will follow at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Fans attending either game are encouraged to wear pink, the color of the official breast cancer ribbon.
Admission to Felician University home basketball games is free for members of the Felician community with proper identification. Tickets are otherwise $5 for adults and $2 for students, children and senior citizens. One ticket is good for both games.
Felician plays its home games at Job Gymnasium on its Rutherford campus. More information is available by contacting the department of athletics at (201) 559-3333 or MentoneM@felician.edu.
