Morris Reaches 1K In Dramatic Fashion As Felician Wins Finale

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Senior forward Ashley Morris (West Orange, N.J.) scored a career high 34 points and added 15 rebounds to lead the Felician College women's basketball team to a 71-61 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over host Concordia (N.Y.) College on Tuesday evening at the Meyer Athletic Center. The game marked the conclusion of the 2014-15 season for both schools.

In the process, Morris became the eighth female in Felician history to reach 1,000 career points. She entered the night needing 33 points for the milestone, and after totaling 15 in the opening period, she reached 32 on a pair of free throws with 1:17 to play. At the 0:43 mark, Morris was again fouled in a one-and-one situation. She sank the first once to reach 1,000. Morris completes her career with 1,001 points and a school-record 736 rebounds.

Morris played the entire 40 minutes. She shot 13 for 27 from the floor, 2 for 5 from three-point range, and 6 of 7 at the foul line. She added three steals and three blocked shots.

Both teams relied heavily on their five starters. Junior guard Eliana Scanlon (New York, N.Y.) scored 18 points and freshman guard Shyla Osmond (New Haven, Conn.) added 17 for Felician (6-20, 5-14), with both also playing 40 minutes. Concordia senior guard KellyAnn Caravello (Amity Harbor, N.Y.) totaled 22 points in 38 minutes.

The Golden Falcons built an 18-7 lead after 10 ½ minutes had elapsed, and took a 29-20 edge into halftime. Concordia (4-22, 4-15) got off to a fast start in period two, tying the contest at 33-33 with 15:54 to play on a Jessica Rosalbo (Staten Island, N.Y.) transition jumper.

The Clippers took their first lead, 41-39, on another Rosalbo bucket with 12:10 to play. Scanlon put Felician on top for good, 47-45, on a jumper at 8:01, but Concordia stayed within five points of the Golden Falcons until the 2:34 mark, when a Morris jump shot capped an 8-0 Felician run for a 65-55 advantage. Neither team scored for the next minute-plus, before Felician went 6 for 6 at the foul line in the final 77 seconds.

Senior Selbe Lo (Dakar, Senegal) had 11 points, nine rebounds and three blocks and Rosalbo finished with 10 points and four assists for the Clippers. Felician senior center Mary Chisholm (West Babylon, N.Y.) grabbed eight rebounds and dished off a career-high five assists before fouling out.

Felician limited the Clippers to 33-percent shooting from the floor, including 24 percent in the first half.
