RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician College freshman Sierra McDuffie (Paterson, N.J./PCTI) has been chosen as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week for the period of Jan. 2-6, the CACC announced today. McDuffie is the first Felician basketball player, male or female, to earn a weekly conference award this season.
The Golden Falcons played one game during the reporting period, a 71-65 CACC home victory over Georgian Court University on Saturday. In that contest, McDuffie, a 5-foot-10 forward, shot 7 for 11 from the field while scoring a season-high 15 points. She also grabbed seven rebounds and blocked two shots. She sparked Felician's comeback victory by scoring the first five points of a late 14-3 run, including a three-point field goal to tie the score at 54-54 with 6:04 to play.
On the season, McDuffie has played all 14 games for Felician, starting eight, and is seeing 19.7 minutes per contest for head coach Steve Fagan. She is averaging 6.3 points and 4.8 rebounds while shooting 49.3 percent from the floor. She is the first Felician women's basketball player to earn CACC Rookie-of-the-Week accolades since teammate Trina Plummer (West Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) was honored twice during the 2010-11 season. McDuffie is a 2012 graduate of Passaic Tech of Wayne.
Also on Monday, Felician junior guard Jac'Quel Saunders (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Catholic Academy) was selected to the CACC Weekly Honor Roll. More information will be available on Tuesday at www.caccathletics.org.
Felician (5-9, 5-2 CACC), a member of NCAA Division II, sits in third place in the CACC North Division. The Golden Falcons next play on Wednesday, when they host Caldwell College in league action at 6 p.m. at Job Gymnasium on their Rutherford Campus.
