RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician University seniors Ashley Owens (Lockport, N.Y./Starpoint) and Jeannette Roldan (Hesperia, Calif./Oak Hills) have been named to the 2018 All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Softball Second Team. The conference's award winners were voted on by its 14 head coaches and announced on Tuesday.
Owens is an all-conference selection for the second time, having also earned Second Team honors in 2016. Roldan is a first-time honoree.
"Ashley and Jeannette are leaving this team in better shape than they found it," said second-year Felician head coach Alexis Durando. "Their selflessness and determination to make us better has truly been an honor to watch. I'm thankful for the opportunity to have coached them."
Owens completed the regular season with a 15-9 won-lost record and a 2.93 earned-run average. She leads the CACC in innings pitched (177) and is among the top five in wins and strikeouts (108). Owens holds nearly two dozen Felician pitching records, including the career marks for appearances (127), wins (47), innings (661 2/3), complete games (66), and strikeouts (374). She is a 2014 graduate of Starpoint High of Lockport, N.Y.
"Ashley has always stepped up to a challenge," Durando said. "We always knew we could count on her, no matter what situation we put her into. She always had my full confidence as a leader on our team."
Roldan, Felician's leadoff hitter and left fielder, is batting .399 in 40 games, good for fourth in the CACC. She has 16 doubles, two triples, two home runs, 31 runs scored, 20 runs batted in and five stolen bases. On Apr. 28, she became the Golden Falcons' all-time hits leader, currently with 182.
"Jeannette is one of the hardest-working athletes I've ever coached," Durando said. "She spends countless hours practicing her craft – well beyond any physical expectation that we have of our players. I love watching her compete, and her love of the game has truly been inspiring."
Felician enters this week's CACC playoffs with a 19-22 overall record. The Golden Falcons tied for fourth in the final CACC regular-season standings with a 16-10 league mark, setting a program record for conference wins. Their conference tournament berth is their fourth in as many years.
Felician has now had four student-athletes earn all-conference honors this academic year.
