CLERMONT, Fla. – The Felician University softball team rallied for three runs in the top of the sixth inning and senior right-hander Ashley Owens (Lockport, N.Y.) pitched four innings of shutout relief as the Golden Falcons snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 13-11 non-conference victory over Notre Dame (Ohio) College on Thursday afternoon at Legends Way Ballfields.

Earlier on Thursday, Felician (3-12) suffered a 6-3 non-league loss to Le Moyne College. Both contests were part of THE Spring Games, sponsored by PFX athletics. The victory over NDC concluded the Golden Falcons' 10-game trip to the Games.

Felician freshman shortstop C.J. Apacible (Long Beach, Calif.) was 5 for 9 and drove in three runs on the day.

Owens (3-6), who started against Notre Dame, re-entered in the pitching circle to start the fourth inning with her team trailing, 11-9. Playing as the visiting team, Felician cut its deficit in half in the fifth when Apacible singled with one out and came all the way around to score on a double by Mia Montoya (Las Vegas, Nev.).

The Golden Falcons put runners on first and third bases to start the sixth. Sophomore Monica Laverty (Lyndhurst, N.J.) slapped a single to left field to tie the game. Following a sacrifice, senior Jeannette Roldan (Hesperia, Calif.) gave Felician the lead for good with a two-run double.

Felician needed only four hits to plate seven runs in the first inning. Nicole Spiegelberg (Blauvelt, N.Y.) hit a three-run home run and Apacible lined a two-run single in the frame. But NDC (3-5) came all the way back and then some, temporarily knocking out Owens with a nine-run second. The Golden Falcons were good for a pair of runs in the third, with a Spiegelberg RBI single tying the game, but Notre Dame moved back ahead with two off the Felician bullpen in the home half.

Apacible was 4 for 5 and Roldan 3 for 4 for Felician. Spiegelberg finished 2 for 5 and knocked in four runs. The Golden Falcons out-hit NDC, 14-13. NDC freshman Kim Crookston (Wadsworth, Ohio) had a double and a triple.

On Thursday morning, Le Moyne (11-2) used a four-run third inning and solid relief pitching to come away with a 6-3 victory. Felician, playing as the home team, created two first-inning runs on Apacible's RBI groundout and a run-scoring double by Montoya, the Golden Falcons' third two-bagger of the stanza. But Dolphin reliever Lauren Nichols (Syracuse, N.Y.), after issuing two walks, came up with a strikeout to avoid further damage.

Nichols kept Felician off of the scoreboard until the sixth inning. In the meantime, the Dolphins went ahead to stay with their four-spot in the third. A three-run double by Peyton Bellrose (Liverpool, N.Y.) spelled the end of Golden Falcon starter Jaimie Parisi's (Hackensack, N.J.) (0-2) time in the circle. Bellrose would come home two batters later on a double by senior Tess Andrews (Camillus, N.Y.).

After Le Moyne tacked on a run in the fifth, Golden Falcon sophomore Victoria Quercia (Monroe Township, N.J.) got it back with a one-out RBI double in the sixth. An error loaded the bases, but once again, Felician could not take advantage and stranded all three runners.

Dolphin senior righty Alexis Eastman (Endicott, N.Y.), retired the final five Golden Falcons for her first save of the season. Le Moyne's Lauren Zazzaro (Southington, Conn.) was 2 for 3. Five of Felician's seven hits went for doubles, with Montoya ending up 2 for 4. Parisi, who allowed two earned runs and struck out three batters in 2 1/3 innings, doubled and scored at the plate.

Felician has nine days off from competition before beginning Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play with a doubleheader in Philadelphia on Mar. 18 against the Jefferson Rams.
