RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician University sophomore Ashley Owens (Lockport, N.Y./Starpoint) has been chosen as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Softball Co-Pitcher of the Week for the period ending Mar. 20, the CACC announced today. Owens earned the award for the first time in her career.
Owens, a 5-foot-7 right-hander, went 2-0 with a 0.00 earned-run average and a .081 opponent batting average in three appearances last week. In 18 innings, she gave up four runs (none earned) on five hits, struck out 13 batters and walked three. She tossed a one-hitter in a 9-4 Game 1 win at Nyack College on Mar. 15. On Saturday, she threw a three-hit shutout in Game 1 at Philadelphia University, and four innings of shutout, one-hit relief in Felician's Game 2 loss.
Owens shared this week's honor with sophomore Desiree Joines of Dominican (N.Y.) College.
On the season, Owens has pitched in 12 games, staring eight. She has a 4-5 record, and ranks fourth in the CACC with an earned-run average of 1.90. In 62 2/3 innings, she has yielded 66 hits, struck out 39 batters and walked 17. She is a 2014 graduate of Starpoint High of Lockport, N.Y.
Owens is the second Golden Falcon this season to be named CACC Pitcher of the Week. Sophomore righty Kaila Gerber (Vincentown, N.J./Seneca) was so honored on Feb. 22.
Also on Tuesday, Felician sophomore left fielder Jeannette Roldan (Hesperia, Calif./Oak Hills and freshman third baseman Racquel Manzo (Whittier, Calif./La Habra) were named to the CACC Weekly Honor Roll.
Felician is guided by third-year head coach Chris Foye of Verona. Owens and the Golden Falcons (10-12, 4-2 CACC) are next in action on Wednesday, when they travel to Bronxville, N.Y., for a CACC doubleheader against Concordia (N.Y.) College.
