Softball Team Is Second In Nation In GPA

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Felician College softball team ranked second nationally in NCAA Division II in team grade-point average for the 2012-13 academic year, according to data released last week by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).

The 14 members of the 2013 Golden Falcons combined to produce a GPA for the fall 2012 and spring 2013 semesters of 3.611, easily placing them in the NFCA Top 10 All-Academic Team Rankings for the first time in program history. That total trailed only the 3.623 of Ohio Dominican University among Division II institutions.

"This achievement is a testament to the hard work that all of these young women have put forth," said Felician director of athletics Ben DiNallo Jr. "Their excellence in the classroom is a model for all of our student-athletes."

The 2013 Golden Falcons were coached by Lori Kwiatkowski of Westwood. Earlier this month, nine team members were named NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes.

Felician was the only Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference member in the Division II Top 10, and one of just two East Region schools. Adelphi University was fifth with a 3.588. Division-III Emerson College led all NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA universities with a 3.700.

The 2013 Felician roster can be viewed at http://www.felicianathletics.com/sports/sball/2012-13/roster. The Top 10 Division II schools are listed below.
