Felician Senior Viana Wins Two CACC Weekly Awards

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician University senior Gabe Viana (Lyndhurst, N.J./Lyndhurst) was chosen as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Soccer co-Player of the Week and the league's Defensive Player of the Week for the period ending Oct. 7, the CACC announced on Monday.

Viana, an outside defender, scored his first two goals of the season last week, one late in each game of Felician's 2-0 week. His unassisted 84th-minute goal at Dominican (N.Y.) College on Oct. 3 evened the score of his team's eventual 3-2 overtime victory. In the 85th minute on Oct. 6, he provided the game-winner as the Golden Falcons knocked off No. 17 nationally-ranked Georgian Court University, 2-1.

Viana has played in all 11 games for the Golden Falcons this season, starting eight. He owns two goals and one assist. He transferred to Felician after two playing seasons as ASA College of Brooklyn. Viana is a 2014 graduate of Lyndhurst High. He competed for Red Bulls Academy during his later scholastic years.

Viana shared the Player of the Week honor with Concordia (N.Y.) College freshman Marlon Buck.

Also on Monday, Felician freshman forward Carlo Gonzalez (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes) was chosen for the CACC's Weekly Honor Roll.

Felician (2-8-1, 2-5 CACC) is guided by fifth-year head coach Erik Kotynski of Lyndhurst. Viana, Gonzalez and the Golden Falcons are next in action on Wednesday, when they host Bloomfield College at 8 p.m. at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex.
