Diverse Issues Names 11 Golden Falcons As Ashe Scholars

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The periodical Diverse Issues In Higher Education has selected 11 Felician College student-athletes as 2015 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars. The award winners come from the sports of men's and women's soccer, women's volleyball, men's and women's basketball, baseball and softball, and were announced in the Apr. 9 issue of the magazine.

Diverse Issues established the Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars Program, named for the late tennis star, in 1992 to honor outstanding undergraduate students of diverse and foreign backgrounds. Each winner must be a non-freshman who competes in an intercollegiate sport, maintains a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.20, and is active on his/her campus or in the community.

Felician earned at least 10 honorees for the fourth consecutive year. The school record of 15 was established in 2014.

The Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars are named annually, and Felician's 2015 honorees are listed below. The on-campus coordinator is Dr. Alfredo Castro, associate professor of chemistry and faculty athletics representative to the NCAA. This marks Felician's 13th year of participation in the program.
