RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician College freshman Keleenna Onyeaka (Birmingham, England/Solihull Sixth Form College) has been chosen as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week, the CACC announced on Monday.
Onyeaka, a 6-foot-2 defender, started all three games on the back line during Felician's 2-1 week. But he was honored mainly for scoring the game-winning goal with 1:36 left in the second overtime period of the Golden Falcons' 2-1 road victory over Wilmington (Del.) University on Oct. 18. It was his first collegiate goal. Felician was in ninth place in the CACC and Wilmington in second at the time of the match.
Onyeaka has started all 16 games for Felician this season with one goal and one assist. He has played a large role in the Golden Falcons winning five games via shutout this season. Behind Onyeaka and the Felician defense, the team's goalkeepers have needed to make only 3.25 saves per game. Onyeaka is a 2011 graduate of The Sixth Form College in Solihill, West Midlands, England.
Also on Monday, Felician graduate student Adrian Sutcliffe (Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England/Prudhoe) was named to the CACC Weekly Honor Roll after enjoying a three-goal game in the Golden Falcons' 4-3 victory at Concordia (N.Y.) College on Saturday. More information is available at http://www.caccathletics.org/sports/msoc/2011-12/releases/WRmsoc10-24-11.
Felician (8-8, 5-5 CACC), a member of NCAA Division II, has secured its first CACC Tournament berth since 2006. It will enter first-round action on Oct. 31 at 2 p.m. with the opponent and site to be determined.
