HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Felician University freshman goalie Pat Hemmer (Staten Island, N.Y.) collected 20 saves and seven ground balls in 56 minutes but was unable to keep the Golden Falcons from a 14-2 non-conference men's lacrosse loss to host University of Alabama in Huntsville on Thursday evening at Charger Park.
Freshman midfielder/attack Anthony Major II (Staten Island, N.Y.) scored both goals for Felician (0-4) while topping the visitors with six shots. Freshman attack Emory Weaver (Memphis, Tenn.) totaled three goals and one assist and junior attack Collin Wilcox (Atlanta, Ga.) also scored three times for UAH (5-2).
The Chargers tallied twice in a span of 35 seconds to take a 2-0 lead with 11 minutes, 31 seconds remaining in the first period. But the goals, by Jacob Glen (Calgary, Alberta) and Wilcox, represented the entirely of the scoring for the quarter.
Major cut Felician's deficit in half with an unassisted score with 10:16 to go until halftime. But the Golden Falcons came up empty for the balance of the period, and the Chargers built a 5-1 halftime lead.
UAH created more opportunities in the second half, out-shooting Felician, 32-7 in the third and fourth quarters and 50-20 for the contest. While Major scored the first goal of period three, and the 5-2 score held until fewer than seven minutes remained, the Chargers pulled away with three markers in a two-minute stretch, then tallied at the 0:31 mark for a 10-2 edge with 15 minutes remaining.
The hosts then put the game away with three goals in the first three minutes of the fourth period.
Charger freshman Nik Kubik (Chicago, Ill.) recorded seven ground balls and went 16 for 19 in the face-off circle. Felician, meanwhile, was 0 for 6 on extra-man opportunities. The Golden Falcons received three ground balls each from freshmen Patrick McAndrew (Newton, N.J.) and Evan Turner (Rockaway, N.J.).
Felician concludes its two-game trip to Alabama with Saturday's tilt against the University of Montevallo.
