Felician Names Brendan Bonacum As First Men's Lacrosse Coach

RUTHERFORD, N.J.Brendan Bonacum of Port Jefferson Station, N.Y., has been named the first head coach of men's lacrosse at Felician University, Felician director of athletics Ben DiNallo Jr. announced today.

Men's lacrosse will become Felician's 14th intercollegiate sport when it takes the field for its inaugural season in the spring of 2018. It will be the Golden Falcons' sixth varsity offering for men, joining baseball, basketball, cross-country, golf and soccer.

Bonacum comes to Felician after spending two seasons as the first head coach of the club men's lacrosse team at Columbus State University in Columbus, Ga. He also served as the recreation specialist at Columbus State. While living in Georgia, he was the U17 head coach for the Copperheads Lacrosse Club.

Before landing the position at Columbus State, Bonacum was an assistant men's coach at Briarcliffe College (2013) and at his alma mater, Dominican (N.Y.) College (2012). At both stops, he was responsible for player development of the goalkeepers and defensemen.

"I'm very excited to take over a brand new program at Felician," Bonacum said. "Our players will have a chance to set the tone from the beginning and make the program their own."

Bonacum played goalkeeper at Dominican from 2008-2011. A three year starter, he still holds Charger records for career saves and single-season victories. He earned a bachelor's degree in education and social sciences from Dominican in 2012 and a master's in sports administration from Canisius College in 2014.

Felician is a member of NCAA Division II. The Golden Falcons are members of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, which plans to sponsor a men's lacrosse championship for the first time in 2018.
