RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician University junior Zamir Wright (Newark, N.J/University HS) has been named to the 2019 All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Basketball First Team The conference's award winners were voted on by its 14 head coaches and announced on Tuesday.
Wright, a 6-3, 188-pound guard, is an all-CACC honoree for the first time. His selection gives Felician a First Team performer for the second consecutive year, as former teammate Terrell Spaulding was voted to that status following the 2017-18 campaign.
Wright started all 27 games for the Golden Falcons in 2018-19. He is tied for seventh in the conference in scoring with 18.7 points per game. His 2.6 three-point field goals per game rank fourth in the CACC. He also averaged 2.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.3 steals.
"Our coaching staff is extremely proud of Zamir and this accomplishment," said fourth-year Felician head coach Ivan Lewis. "Watching him grow this year has been really exciting to watch."
Wright scored in double figures in all but one game this season. He enjoyed 10 games of 20 or more points, with a career-high 34 in a 96-90 home victory over Bloomfield College on Jan. 16. Wright scored 5.7 points per game as a freshman, then jumped that figure to 15.3 last year. With a season left to play, he sits seventh on Felician's all-time scoring list with 1,045 points.
"We emphasize the development of our student-athletes within the program," Lewis said. "Zamir is a testament to that effort."
Wright is a 2016 graduate of University High School in Newark.
The Golden Falcons (14-13, 12-7 CACC) were the CACC North Division's No. 4 seed for this week's conference playoffs. They were eliminated in Tuesday's quarterfinals by the South No. 1 seed Jefferson Rams.
Felician now has had five student-athletes earn all-conference honors this academic year.
