PHILADELPHIA – Felician University, the No. 4 seed from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division, was eliminated from the 2019 CACC Men's Basketball Championship tournament on Tuesday evening following an 85-65 quarterfinal loss to the host Jefferson Rams on Herb Magee Court at the Gallagher Center.
Jefferson, the South Division's No. 1 seed and regular-season winner, is the event's defending champion. The Rams (formerly Philadelphia University) move on to meet North No. 2 seed Dominican (N.Y.) College in the semifinals on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Caldwell, N.J.
Felician, meanwhile, concludes the 23rd season in program history with a won-lost record of 14-13. The Golden Falcons will graduate only one senior, forward/center Rahsaan Williams (Brooklyn, N.Y./Chelsea CTE). Williams totaled nine points and seven rebounds in 21 minutes on Tuesday.
The Golden Falcons posted their best record under fourth-year head coach Ivan Lewis and enjoyed the program's fifth winning season and first since 2010-11.
"While we didn't get the result we wanted tonight, this season was a step in the right direction in the process of restoring a winning culture," Lewis said. "We enter the off-season focused on doing whatever is necessary to take the next steps into the top tier of teams in the CACC."
Jefferson junior forward Josh Bradanese (Billerica, Mass./Billerica Memorial) scored a game-high 26 points with seven rebounds on Tuesday. The Rams (22-7) received 21 points and 12 rebounds from junior forward DeVaughn Mallory (Smyrna, Del./Polytech). Redshirt freshman guard Aziz Parker (Westhampton, N.J./Medford Tech) came off the bench to record 15 points and six rebounds in 18 minutes for Felician.
Following six early first-half lead changes, the Rams opened a 39-26 lead with two minutes, 44 seconds, to play until halftime. Felician rallied for the period's final seven points, all by Parker, and went into the intermission trailing by six, 39-33.
Two early second-half free throws by Rachid Shimou (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) pulled the Golden Falcons to within a four-point deficit. However, the Rams then embarked on a 16-4 run over the next six minutes, with a Mallory layup handing his team a 16-point spread.
Consecutive three-point field goals by Shimou and Parker, the latter with 11:24 to play, sliced Felician's hill to 55-46. But the visitors would never creep any closer. The Golden Falcons went scoreless for the next three minutes, allowing the Rams to build a 62-46 edge, and when Kylan Guerra (White Plains, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) advanced to the rim for a layup at the 5:54 mark, the Rams were ahead, 75-51.
Felician freshman Jay'von Jackson (Plainfield, N.J./St. Mary-Elizabeth) recorded 11 points and 12 rebounds and finished the season with three double-doubles in his final four games. Junior Zamir Wright (Newark, N.J./University HS) also scored 11.
Felician was held to 37-percent shooting from the floor. Jefferson converted 17 Golden Falcon turnovers into 23 points.
The Rams will seek their sixth CACC title.
