RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician College graduates Suquan Gary '11 of Paterson and Ethan Kennedy '10 of Hackensack are among 32 finalists who will compete for the championship of the 2012 Red Bull Midnight Run "streetball" tournament at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Friday, December 14.
Red Bull Midnight Run features non-professional basketball players from four metropolitan areas – Boston, Chicago, New York City, and Washington, D.C. – in a traditional, pick-up style format. Games are played full-court, 5-on-5, with 1- and 2-point shots. The team that reaches 11 points first, or is in the lead after seven minutes, is the winner. More information is available at www.redbullusa.com/midnightrun.
The event began with 400 players invited to initial tryouts, 100 in each city. Gary and Kennedy, along with former Felician assistant coach Brad Forestieri of Elmwood Park, were among invitees to Round 1 for "Team NYC" at the Brooklyn Nets' practice facility in early June. All three players made the first cut down to the 35 players who were brought back for Round 2 in late August.
Round 2 cut the field of 35 down to a final eight to represent NYC in the finals. Forestieri, Gary, and Kennedy were all selected. The entire Team NYC Roster can be viewed at http://www.redbullusa.com/cs/Satellite/en_US/MidnightRun/New-York/001243183808056.
Gary and Kennedy were each two-year starters at forward for Felician, and were both members of the Golden Falcons' 2009-10 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference championship team. Gary began his collegiate career at Chemeketa Community College in Salem, Ore., while Kennedy, a native of New Mexico, transferred to Felician from Division-I Coppin State University.
Forestieri spent three years on the Felician men's basketball staff, from 2009-12.
