Felician Puts Three On CACC All-Tournament Baseball Team

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Three Felician University baseball players – freshman pitcher Michael Gutierrez (Garfield, N.J./Garfield), graduate pitcher Rob Naughton (Levittown, N.Y./Chaminade), and sophomore designated hitter Rahul Prince (Pomona, N.Y./St. Joseph Regional [N.J.]) -- were named to the 2018 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) All-Tournament Team.

The All-Tournament Team was announced at the conclusion of the CACC Championship Round on Sunday evening at Municipal Stadium in Waterbury, Conn. The complete set of team members, which was selected by tournament media relations staff, is listed below.

Gutierrez, a 6-foot-2 right-hander, made three playoff appearances, going 1-1 with a 2.35 earned-run average. In 15 1/3 innings, he allowed nine hits, struck out 20 batters, and walked seven. Opponents hit .170 off of him.

Gutierrez gave up four hits with 10 strikeouts in a six-inning no decision in Felician's 10-inning home play-in victory over Concordia (N.Y.) College on May 5. He was the winning pitcher in the first round of the main draw against Dominican (N.Y.) College  five days later. In that start, he tossed six scoreless frames with nine strikeouts, giving up two hits and two walks.

Naughton, a 6-foot-4 righty, pitched a complete-game in the Golden Falcons' 6-1 victory over regionally-ranked Wilmington (Del.) University in the winners' bracket final on May 11. He yielded six hits, all singles and no walks, while striking out seven. After allowing a first-inning run, no other Wildcat reached third base. Naughton also pitched an inning of relief in the play-in game.

Prince hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th inning to lift Felician to its play-in victory over Concordia. He was 3 for 6 with four runs batted in during that game, and followed up with a 3 for 4 performance against Dominican. For the tournament, he hit .318 with a double, three runs scored and six RBI in five games.

Felician (30-25, 25-7 CACC) was the runner-up in the tournament, losing two games to Wilmington on Sunday. The Golden Falcons, who won the CACC South Division regular-season title, have two conference championships (2014, 2016). They finished second for the third time (2006, 2012).
