NEW HAVEN, Conn. (May 10, 2016) -- Felician University baseball standout Dean Loucka on Tuesday was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Student-Athlete of the Month for April 2016, as announced by Commissioner Dan Mara. Loucka earned the award after demonstrating success on the diamond, in the classroom and in the local community.

On the pitching mound, Loucka was 2-1 during April with 11 strikeouts over 10 innings of work. He earned a win in relief versus Adelphi on April 12 and then picked up another triumph against Philadelphia University in game two of an April 16 doubleheader. In that contest, he went six innings and yielded two runs on four hits with eight strikeouts.

Loucka is 10th in program history with 126 career strikeouts. He also ranks among the program's all-time leaders in opponent batting average (.236) and hits allowed per nine innings (7.97).

He was named Felician's 2016 Senior Student-Athlete of the Year at the school's annual year-end awards banquet last week. Loucka garnered the award, which is given to a Felician senior who is committed to academic and community service endeavors just as much as athletic accomplishments. Loucka owns a 3.41 cumulative grade point average in his major of accounting.

In the community, Loucka has made his mark -- both around the Felician campus and locally in his hometown of Wood-Ridge, N.J. He serves as a volunteer instructor at several local baseball camps, providing instruction on fundamentals to young children all the way to high school age kids. He has dispersed food at his church's food pantry, Our Lady of Assumption in Wood-Ridge, and has also taken the time to assist a neighbor's parents with in-home nursing care.

Loucka's student-athlete-of-the-month award comes just one day after it was announced by the CACC that nine Felician baseball standouts earned all-conference recognition, including Matt Blandino being named pitcher of the year. All 10 standouts will be recognized at the CACC Baseball Championship Banquet Wednesday night in Wilmington, Del., on the eve of the double-elimination portion of the conference baseball championship. Felician was the CACC Regular Season Champion in 2016 and is the No. 1 seed in this week's baseball tournament.

The CACC awards the Student-Athlete-of-the-Month honor to a deserving standout each month during the academic year from September through May. A student-athlete must show success on the field, in the classroom and give back to the local community to be considered for nomination by their respective member school.

The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference is an NCAA Division II Conference composed of 14 institutions in Connecticut, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.
