Felician Earns Pair Of CACC Weekly Baseball Awards

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician University claimed two of the three Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference weekly baseball awards for the period ending Mar. 20, the CACC announced today. Junior right fielder Andrew LaMura (Brick, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) was named the league's Player of the Week, while junior right-hander Matt Blandino (Bristol, Conn./Bristol Central) shared the Pitcher of the Week award.

Both players were honored for their performances during Felician's sweep of its CACC home doubleheader with the University of the Sciences on Saturday. It was the Golden Falcons' only action of the week. LaMura went 5 for 8 in the twinbill and drove in six runs, three in each game. He hit a two-run, inside-the-park home run in the first inning of his team's 9-3 win in Game 1, then sent a go-ahead two-run single up the middle in the fifth frame of Felician's eventual 6-2 Game 2 triumph.

Blandino pitched seven shutout innings in Game 1 on Saturday, picking up his first victory as a Golden Falcon. He allowed five hits, struck out a season-high 11 batters, and walked none. He allowed only one runner to reach third base.

LaMura is in his second year as a starter for Felician after spending his freshman campaign at Division-I East Carolina University. Blandino transferred to Felician for the 2016 season after pitching the last two years for Division-I Central Connecticut State University.

Felician baseball is guided by 13th-year head coach Chris Langan of Hazlet. LaMura, Blandino and the Golden Falcons (7-13, 2-0 CACC) are next in action tonight, when they travel to Suffern, N.Y., for a CACC contest against Nyack College.
