Diesel Repeats As CACC Rookie Of The Week

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician College freshman Matt Diesel (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) has been chosen as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Baseball Rookie of the Week for the period ending Apr. 5, the CACC announced on Monday. Diesel wins the award for the second consecutive week.

Diesel played in the first two games, both victories, of an eventual 3-2 week for Felician. In those contests, home wins against Dominican (N.Y.) College on Mar. 30 and Philadelphia University on Apr. 2, he went 5 for 7 with a double and two triples, posting a slugging percentage of 1.429. An injury prevented Diesel from competing in the Golden Falcons' final three games of the week.

Diesel has played in 21 games this season, starting 20. He is batting .313 with seven doubles, four triples, 14 runs scored and 10 runs batted in. He is a 2014 graduate of Massapequa High.

Also on Monday, three Felician athletes – senior first-baseman Ciera Clark (Granite Bay, Calif./Del Oro) and freshman outfielder Jeannette Roldan (Hesperia, Calif./Oak Hills) of the softball team, as well as sophomore men's golfer Justin Rasmus (Colonia, N.J./Colonia) – were named to their sport's CACC Weekly Honor Roll.

Felician baseball is guided by 12th-year head coach Chris Langan of Hazlet. Diesel and the Golden Falcons (13-17, 7-3) are next in action on Thursday, when host Chestnut Hill College in a CACC doubleheader in Lyndhurst, N.J.
