NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Felician College outfielder Joe Petosa has been named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Student-Athlete of the Month for May 2014 as announced today by CACC Commissioner Dan Mara.  This is this final Student-Athlete of the Month honor for the 2013-2014 academic year.

May proved to be a very productive month for Petosa.  The graduate student from Spotswood, N.J. was named to the CACC Baseball All-Conference First Team on May 6th and would lead his Falcons to their first CACC Baseball Championship as the Most Valuable Player on May 10th.   On May 15th, he was named Division II Daktronics First Team All-Region.  The left fielder was also named to the NCAA Division II East Region All-Tournament Team on May 18 and to the Capital One Academic All-America NCAA Division II Baseball Second Team, as coordinated and selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on May 29th.  Felician also chose Petosa as its 2014 Senior Male Student-Athlete of the Year.   For the month of May, Petosa went 12-for-32 (.375) with five runs scored and six runs batted in throughout his postseason run.

Petosa is Felician's career leader in hits (225), walks (91) and triples (19), and is one of only two Golden Falcon baseball players to be named All-CACC four times. He received a Bachelors of Science Degree in Accounting from Felician in 2013, graduating with a grade-point average of 3.79. He holds a 3.42 GPA in the College's MBA program.  Petosa is a two-time Capital One Academic All-American, two-time First Team Capital One Academic All-District and three-time Academic All-Conference.

He is also involved in several community service activities.  The son of Robert and Michele Petosa participated in Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA), which provides free assistance to the general public with filing federal income taxes as part of a Felician College program.  He assisted in the preparation of a golf tournament to benefit anti-Multiple Sclerosis charities, volunteered as a youth baseball coach in his hometown of Spotswood, N.J., and as a sophomore, participated in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk with FC Baseball and Softball teams.  Joe's sister Samantha recently completed her junior year on the Felician women's soccer team and also wears number 11.

The CACC Student Athlete of the Month is awarded from September through May to select student-athletes who excel in athletics, the classroom and the community.
