Petosa, De Jong Voted To Capital One Academic All-District Baseball Squad

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician College student-athletes Joe Petosa (Spotswood, N.J./Spotswood), a graduate student, and sophomore Scott De Jong (North Haledon, N.J./Eastern Christian) have been voted to the Capital One Academic All-District Baseball First Team for District 1 in NCAA Division II, as coordinated and selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

As First Team selections, Petosa and De Jong will move on to represent Felician on the Division II Capital One Academic All-America® ballot.

Petosa, a repeat winner of the award, was a Third-Team Capital One Academic All-America selection in 2012 before sitting out last season due to injury. De Jong is an Academic All-District honoree for the first time.

In 2014, Petosa, a 5-foot-11, 195-pound outfielder, has appeared in 42 games, starting 40, for the Golden Falcons (26-18, 15-5 CACC). He is batting .359 with 10 doubles, four triples, one home run, 24 runs scored and 28 runs batted in. He is the fourth-leading hitter in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference heading into this week's conference tournament.

Petosa is a three-time all-CACC selection, and is on the ballot again this year. He is Felician's all-time leader in walks and triples and is tied for second in program history with 214 base hits. He received a BS in accounting from Felician in 2013, graduating with a 3.79 grade-point average. Petosa holds a 3.33 GPA in the College's MBA program.

De Jong is a second-year starter at first base for Felician head coach Chris Langan. The 6-foot-4, 235-pounder has started all 44 games in 2014, and leads the Division II East Region with 45 RBI. He is batting .352 with five home runs, 38 runs scored, and 10 stolen bases. De Jong owns a 3.55 GPA as a criminal justice major. 

CoSIDA's District I for NCAA Division II is comprised of all members of the CACC, East Coast Conference, and Northeast-10 Conference.
