RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician College sophomore Scott De Jong (North Haledon, N.J./Eastern Christian) has been chosen as the NCAA Division II East Region Hitter of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) for the period ending Mar. 9. The NCBWA chose its Hitter and Pitcher of the Week for the eight NCAA Division II regions on Tuesday.
De Jong (dee-YOUNG) batted .421 (8 for 19) and slugged .684 in a 2-3 week for the Golden Falcons, splitting time between third base and first base. He had two doubles and a grand slam, scored five runs and drove in nine. He stole six bases in seven chances, and drew four walks for a .542 on-base percentage. He was named the co-Player of the Week in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC).
On the season, De Jong leads the CACC with 19 RBI in 13 games. He is batting .383 with five doubles, three home runs, 10 runs scored and seven steals.
Senior Tyler Badamo of Dowling College was named the NCBWA East Pitcher of the Week. The NCAA Division II East Region consists of the CACC, East Coast Conference and Northeast-10 Conference, totaling 33 schools.
Felician is guided by 11th-year head coach Chris Langan of Hazlet. The Golden Falcons own an overall won-lost record of 5-8 heading into this weekend's four-game stay at the Coaches vs. Cancer Invitational in Cary, N.C.
