RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician College sophomore Scott De Jong (North Haledon, N.J./Eastern Christian) has been chosen as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Baseball co-Player of the Week for the period ending Mar. 9, the CACC announced on Monday.
Monday's set of weekly awards were the first of the season for CACC spring sports. They took into account year-to-date statistics, not just the previous week.
De Jong, 6-foot-4 and 235 pounds, has split time between third base, first base and designated hitter. He has driven in 18 runs in Felician's first 12 games, leading the CACC. He is batting .381 with five doubles, three home runs, including a grand slam, nine runs scored and seven stolen bases. He has slugged .714 with a .481 on-base percentage.
De Jong is a second year starter for the Golden Falcons. He took a "redshirt" season in 2012 while attending the University of Connecticut. He shared this week's CACC Player of the Week award with third-baseman Josh Hampton of Wilmington (Del.) University.
Also on Monday, Felician junior left-handed pitcher Jack Fowler (Shrewsbury, N.J./Red Bank Regional) was named to the CACC Weekly Honor Roll. More information is available at http://www.caccathletics.org/sports/bsb/2013-14/releases/20140310-Baseball-report.pdf.
Felician, guided by 11th-year head coach Chris Langan of Hazlet, owns a won-lost record of 5-7. The Golden Falcons next compete on Wednesday, when they travel to Dowling College for a non-conference tilt at 3 p.m.
