RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician College sophomore Jack Fowler (Shrewsbury, N.J./Red Bank Regional) has been chosen as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the period ending April 28, the CACC announced today.
Fowler earned both victories during Felician's 2-2 week. On Wednesday, he made his first start of the season and worked through five innings, giving up two unearned runs on four hits in an eventual 5-3 home triumph over Bloomfield College. He came back on two days' rest and pitched the final two scoreless frames of the Golden Falcons' 10-inning, 2-1 home win over Chestnut Hill College in Game 1 of a Saturday doubleheader.
In seven innings for the week, Fowler pitched to a 0.00 earned-run average and a .200 opponent batting average. He yielded five hits, struck out seven batters and walked two.
Fowler, a 5-foot-9, 170-pound left-hander, is tied for the CACC lead with 26 appearances, matching a Felician single-season record he already shared with John Calise. He owns a 4-3 record and two saves, is fourth in the CACC with an ERA of 2.03, and is tied for the league lead with teammate Vic Monteagudo (West Palm Beach, Fla./John I. Leonard) with 55 strikeouts. A 2011 graduate of Red Bank Regional, Fowler has allowed 36 hits in 48 2/3 innings this season.
Fowler is the CACC Pitcher of the Week for the first time. He is the third Golden Falcon to earn the award in 2013, joining sophomore right-hander Matthew Facendo (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan) (March 3) and junior righty Stephen Paladino (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's Boys) (March 25).
Also today, Felician junior baseball catcher/outfielder Chris Ayala (Marlboro, N.J./Marlboro) and sophomore softball third-baseman Taylor Parker (Surrey, British Columbia/Semiahmoo) were named to the CACC Weekly Honor Roll. It was the second such recognition of the season for Ayala and the fourth for Parker.
