RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician College sophomore Matthew Facendo (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan) has been chosen as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the period ending March 3, the CACC announced on Tuesday. Facendo was honored as part of the first set of weekly awards handed out by the CACC in 2013.
The honor considered all games played through March 3. In that period, Facendo, a 6-foot-3, 215-pound right-hander, made four appearances, posting a 2-0 record, a 0.93 earned-run average, and a .156 opponent batting average. He struck out seven batters and walked six in 9 2/3 innings.
Facendo earned a win in relief in the season opener against Molloy College on Feb. 15 in Morehead City, N.C. He made his first career start (after 24 relief outings) on Feb. 24 in Myrtle Beach, S.C., also against Molloy, and pitched six shutout innings for another victory.
Facendo was named the Division II/III Pitcher of the Week by the New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association on March 1 for the same set of statistics. He is a 2011 graduate of Raritan High.
Felician owns a 7-9 overall record heading into Thursday's non-conference game against Assumption College in Winter Park, Fla.
