RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician College sophomore Matthew Facendo (Hazlet, N.J/Raritan) was named the New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association (NJCBA) Division II/III Pitcher of the Week for the period ending Feb. 24, the NJCBA announced on Wednesday. Facendo was honored as part of the first set of weekly awards handed out by the NJCBA in 2013.

The honor considered all games played through Feb. 24. In that period, Facendo, a 6-foot-3, 215-pound right-hander, made four appearances, posting a 2-0 record, a 0.93 earned-run averge, and a .156 opponent batting average. He struck out seven batters and walked six in 9 2/3 innings.

Facendo earned a win in relief in the season opener against Molloy College on Feb. 15 in Morehead City, N.C. He made his first career start (after 24 relief outings) on Feb. 24 in Myrtle Beach, S.C., also against Molloy, and pitched six shutout innings for another victory.

Facendo was the NJCBA D-II/III Rookie Pitcher of the Year in 2012 after setting a Felician single-season record with eight saves.

The NJCBA consists of all baseball-playing four-year colleges and universities in the state of New Jersey.

Felician owns a 4-4 overall record heading into Saturday's pair of non-conference games against Stonehill College and Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla.
