RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician College senior Brian Dudzinski (Lincroft, NJ/Middletown South) was named the New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association (NJCBA) Division II/III Pitcher of the Week for May 14, the NJCBA recently announced. The same week, Felician freshman Jack Fowler (Shrewsbury, NJ/Red Bank Regional) was named the D-II/III Rookie Pitcher of the Week. It was the final set of NJCBA weekly awards for the 2012 season.
Both players were cited for their efforts in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) playoffs. Dudzinski, a 6-foot-6 right-hander, started and earned the victory in Felician's 5-1 triumph over Bloomfield College in the first round of the tournament's main draw on May 10 in New Castle, Del. In seven innings, he allowed one unearned run on one hit with three strikeouts.
Fowler, a 5-foot-9 left-handed reliever, pitched in all four of the Golden Falcons' contests in a three-day stretch in the tournament, helping Felician to a runner-up finish. In a combined 3 1/3 innings, he gave up no runs on no hits, struck out one and walked one. In the process, he tied the Felician record for appearances in a season with 26.
Felician captured the NJCBA D-II/III Rookie Pitcher of the Week honor in six of the 11 weeks it was handed out this season. In addition to Fowler's award, freshman right-hander Matthew Facendo (Hazlet, NJ/Raritan) won it three times and righty Chet Godfrey (Millville, NJ/Millville) twice.
Felician is a member of NCAA Division II. The Golden Falcons (27-24, 16-4) won the CACC regular-season championship for the second time in program history.
The NJCBA consists of all the baseball-playing senior colleges in New Jersey. More information is available at http://www.njcugothicknights.com/sports/2009/6/10/NEW%20JERSEY%20COLLEGIATE%20BASEBALL%20ASSOCIATION.aspx?path=baseball.
