RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician College freshman Matthew Facendo (Hazlet, NJ/Raritan) earned two weekly baseball honors on Monday. The right-handed pitcher was selected the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Rookie of the Week and the New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association (NJCBA) Division II/III Rookie Pitcher of the Week.
The 6-foot-4 Facendo earned saves in all three of his appearances during Felician's 5-0 week. He closed out Game 2 of a doubleheader sweep of then-first-place Bloomfield College on Apr. 25, then saved both ends of a twinbill at Chestnut Hill College on Saturday as the Golden Falcons wrapped up the CACC regular-season championship. In 3 2/3 innings he allowed no runs on one hit while opponents hit .091 off of him.
On the season, Facendo has appeared in 17 games for the Golden Falcons. He is 1-0 with a 2.14 earned-run average, and is second in the CACC with six saves. In 21 innings, he has give up 18 hits, struck out 29 batters, and walked six. Facendo is a 2010 graduate of Raritan High.
Facendo earns both honors for the second time this season.
Felician is a member of NCAA Division II. The Golden Falcons (24-20, 15-4) have won six consecutive games heading into their CACC finale on Wednesday against Concordia (N.Y.) College.
