RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician College freshmen Matthew Facendo (Hazlet, NJ/Raritan) and Chet Godfrey (Millville, NJ/Millville) have been selected as the last two New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association Division II/III Rookie Pitchers of the Week, the NJCBA announced on Friday.
Facendo, a 6-foot-4 right-handed pitcher, was honored for the week ending March 11. In a pair of relief appearances totaling 3 2/3 innings that week, he combined to allow two hits and one unearned run, struck out seven batters, and walked one. He pitched a scoreless inning with two strikeouts in Felician's lone victory that week, a 5-2 triumph over Molloy College in Boca Raton, Fla., on Mar. 10. He was also named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week for that time period.
Godfrey, a 5-foot-11 right-hander, was named for the week ending March 18. He tossed five hitless innings in a pair of relief appearances that week with five strikeouts and one walk. Godfrey earned his first collegiate save on Mar. 17, working the final two innings of the Golden Falcons' 3-1 home win over the University of the Sciences in their CACC opener.
It was the second weekly award of the season for Godfrey, who was chosen the CACC Rookie of the Week on March 6.
On the season, Facendo is 0-0 with a 4.62 earned-run average in eight appearances. He has allowed eight hits struck out 16 batters and walked three in 9 1/3 innings. Godfrey leads Felician with 29 2/3 innings over 10 appearances (two starts). He is 1-2 with a 3.64 ERA and has 22 strikeouts and seven walks.
Felician is a member of NCAA Division II. The Golden Falcons have a 9-13 overall won-lost record heading into today's CACC home doubleheader against Post University at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex.
